Services were held 2 pm Sunday, September 6, at Rainey Funeral Home Chapel in Dexter, with the Reverend Duke Tolbert and the Reverend Peter Rhea Jones officiating. Burial was in Dexter Cemetery.
Poyner was born October 15, 1914, in the Mt Pelia Community, son of the late Carl B. Poyner and Mrs. Mai Hilliard Poyner.
He was united in marriage in Dexter, Missouri, to Mary Margaret Holman at Martin on March 17, 1946. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1986.
Poyner had lived in Dexter, Missouri, for a number of years. For many years before his retirement, he was employed as district sales manager for MoorMan Manufacturing Company.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter, the Dexter Masonic Lodge, and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, Billy Poyner of Dyer; three daughters, Mrs. Dawn Parker of Sikeston, Missouri; Mrs. Carol Dean of Dexter and Mrs. Ann Borgmeyer of St. Charles, Missouri; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Nell Couch of Martin and Mrs. Aliene Miles of Paris; and six grandchildren, Travis Dean and Justin Dean, Geoffrey Parker and Jennifer Parker, and Craig Borgmeyer and Laura Borgmeyer.
In addition to his wife and parents, Poyner was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Poyner, in 1943.
