James (Jim) Helton- February 29, 1867- April 27, 1952 was born the son of Hiram Helton (1832-1909) and Mary Gains (1824-1933)of Knox County Kentucky. Hiram and Mary were married in April 1855.Jim's brother's and sister's were; Elizabeth, Nancy Liz Collinsworth, Sarah McVey, John, William, Hiram Jr, Archie, Luke, Amanda Walters, Biddie Mayes and a baby died at birth. On August 13, 1889, Jim married Rosie Barton (1875-1926) the daughter of Calvin and Matilda (Walters) Barton. As a young man Jim grew up in the Paint Hill Community where he made his home, he worked as a carpenter and lived his life on the farm in Helton Hollow on which he grew up. He helped build many of the old homes throughout the Paint Hill and Indian Creek Communities. Jim and his family made caskets for people in the area. Jim and Rosie had 8 children; Margaret "Mag" Helton, ( 1891-1957), Forester (1895-1971) who married Ada Foley in 1919, Luther (1902-Nov. 1, 1946) married Jola Neil, Betty (1908-1975) who married John Engle in 1931, Cleo (1911-1916, Robert (1898-1900), Sherman ( Sept. 3, 1905) and another child.
