William J. "Bill" Velpel, 85, of Pekin, formerly of Peoria, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at Pekin Hospital.

He was born to William C. and Gertrude Koegle Velpel on Jan. 30, 1922, in Peoria and married his wife of 63 years, Betty Anne Peterson, on June 26, 1944, in Peoria.

She survives, along with a son, Michael "Mike" (Jill) of Pekin; a brother, Robert "Bob" of Peoria.

He is preceded in Heaven by his parents; brother, Raymond "Ray"; and little sister, Geraldine.

Bill served in the Army Air Forces during World War II and was the manager for Model Wallpaper and Paint in Sheridan Village for 33 years, retiring in 1987.

Cremation has been accorded, and burial of cremains will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Peoria.
