Sister Mary Lawrence Rochel was born in Fidelity, Kansas to Joseph W. and Elizabeth L. Buser Rochel. Her parents preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by three brothers: Rev. Joseph Rochel, SJ, John Rochel and Rev. Anthony Rochel, SJ and by six sisters: Sr. Walburg Rochel, OSB, Clara Buessing, Sr. Cyprian Rochel, CSJ, Rosalia Broxterman, Margaret Haug and Suitberta Burdick.

Sister Mary Lawrence entered the congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters on August 10, 1937 and made first Vows on August 5, 1940. She served in the missions in California, Kentucky, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Texan and Wyoming. She returned to Victory Noll in 1992 where she did volunteer work.
