Betty Jean Carroll, 79, of Orlando, Fla., passed away November 14, 2020.

Born August 7, 1941, in Worland, Wyo., to Harold L Patterson II and Betty Ruth Patterson (nee Reesy), she was raised in Thermopolis, Wyo., the eldest of three children.

She attended the University of Wyoming, where she obtained a Bachelor of Education degree and spent many years teaching elementary education in the Mt Diablo school district in the East Bay of San Francisco, Calif. In the later years of her career, she served as President of the Mt Diablo Education Association where she served with distinction and earned a number of accolades for her efforts at improving the lot of students and educators alike in her district.

She retired in 2001 and in 2003, moved from California to Orlando, Fla., to be nearer to her family and to spend her retirement years doting on her grandchildren. In her time in Orlando, she made many fast friends and was active in the community, enjoying time spent playing bridge with her friends, attending and supporting local theater productions, symphonies and book club.

She is survived by her sons, Patrick S Carroll and Marshall J Carroll; son-in-law, Victor L Rinaldi, of Johnstown, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Naldita Carroll; grandchildren, Eric, Neesa and Henry, all of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Harold Lee Patterson III of Bend, Ore., and brother, Alvin Kent Patterson of St Joseph, Mo.

She was laid to rest in the Patterson family plot at Monument Hill Cemetery in a private graveside service. In accordance with her wishes, a party to celebrate her life will be held in the future at the home of friends in California and Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Adult Literacy League, 2221 Lee Rd, Ste 18, Winter Park, FL, 32789 in her memory.--Independent Record, July 22, 2021
