Son of G.C. Moody United States Senator of South Dakota. Warner Moody was a very prominent attorney in the small town of Shoshoni, Wyoming. He and his wife moved to Shoshoni in 1905 where he worked with land developers and settlers purchasing land for surrounding Fremont County. Moody's brother Burdid (Burdette in some cases) was one of the largest mine operators in Deadwood and the Black Hills – he later settled in Los Angeles. Moody and his wife attended social event and were walking home across a brushed covered lot and just before Moody reached the gate of his yard, he was shot. He staggered, regained his footing and was shot again. A witness hurried to the scene and chased after the assailants. The witness was also shot twice but survived his injuries.
