Carol J. Grande 1934—2021
Carol J. Grande, 86, of Freeport, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Liberty Village in Freeport Illinois. She was born December 27, 1934 in Shannon, IL the daughter of Irvin and Gladys (Horner) Woessner. She attended the Shannon schools where she participated in the music program, plays and operettas, was a cheerleader for four years and was salutatorian of her graduation class. Following graduation, Carol worked for Henney Motor Co., Freeport, IL and for Barker Lumber Co., Shannon, IL. She was united in marriage to Gordon Grande of Forreston, IL on June 12, 1954. She lived in Alexandria, VA and Oceanside, CA with her husband while he was in the military. After the military, she lived briefly in Shannon, IL, Pearl City, IL and for 44 years in Durand, IL. While in Durand, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for over 20 years and served on various committees for several years.
Besides working at the Colonial Shop in Durand, she found time to join a golf league, a bowling league, and women's club. She shared her husband's dedication to the local Lions Club which she joined and had 26 years of perfect attendance. She and her husband traveled extensively visiting most of the fifty states including Hawaii and Alaska, Canada, Mexico, China, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, England, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose doors were open to all. She loved holidays and family get togethers; any chance to spend time with family was important to her. She was the typical soccer Mom and was present at most events in which her boys and grandson participated.

Carol is survived by her husband of 67 years and, sons Brian (Linda Emerson) of Durand, IL, Kevin of Freeport, IL, Allen (Shannon Nelson) of Madison, WI and grandson Adam of Durand, IL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved stepfather Harvey Woessner, brother Lawrence, sister Marilyn Christopherson, sister-in-law Norma and infant brother, Donald.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 am Saturday August 7, 2021 in Durand United Methodist Church 102 E Main St. Durand, IL with Pastor Brenda Bryne officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeport, IL. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand Chapel 101 W Main St Durand, IL from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday. Memorials may be given to: Alzheimer's Association 225 North Michigan Avenue Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601 and/or Durand Lions Club POB 474 Durand, IL 61024.
