Loretta Moore was born February 10, 1931, in Joliet, IL, the daughter of Oswald and Adeline (Gould) Moore. She married Henry T. "Shen" Smith August 25, 1951, in Joliet. He passed away May 1, 2005.
She retired from the Rock Island Arsenal. She spent 15 years of her retirement in Pensacola, FL, with her beloved husband Shen. She cherished the moments where her children and grandchildren would come to visit - baking and cooking wonderful meals for them and ensuring that every morsel of food was finished or saved for a later date. She enjoyed spending time at the beach with her family and watching from a safe distance as her husband splashed in the waves with their grandchildren. When she wasn't spending time with family, she would do volunteer service with her church - providing meals to seniors in need. She was a devout Catholic and actively involved in prayer chain. She was the matriarch of the family to those of us fortunate enough to call her "Ma" and Grandma and she will be sorely missed by all those that loved her dearly.
Survivors include her children, Lawrence (Peggy) Smith, Lees Summit, MO, Roger (Sandy) Smith, Davenport, IA, Kenneth (Shirley) Smith, Ocean Springs, MS, Karen (William) Eyer, Snellville, GA, and Roxanne (Frank) Spurgetis, East Moline; grandchildren, Patrick (Cathy) deVarona, Andrea deVarona, Billy Eyer, Kaitlyn Eyer, Phillip (Carrie) Spurgetis, Alex (Amy) Spurgetis, Erin Smith, Erica Smith, Scott Smith, Chris (Gabriella) Smith; 8 great grandchildren; brother, James (Sue) Moore, Joliet; and sister-in-law, Joan Moore, New Lenox, IL
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sharon deVerona; and brother, Robert Moore.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or the Kahl Home, Davenport, IA.
