Mrs. Ammons was born in Robeson County on May 26, 1937, to the late Hubert Nash and the late Vashti Rowan Ammons.
She was a long-time member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Lumberton, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for the Carrie Hedgpeth Ladies class. She was also a member of the Seniors Ladies Group and the Joy Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman Grant; and a sister, Jan Ammons Sessoms.
Mrs. Grant is survived by a son, (Wallace) Shane Barnes (Wilma) of Concord; her daughters, Deryl Barnes Garrity (Timothy) of Wake Forest,and Leah Grant Lewis (Scott) of Bladenboro; a brother, Hal N. Ammons of Rockwall, Texas; a sister, Beth Ammons Brisson of Lumberton; six grandsons, Hugh Barnes, Patrick Garrity, Colin Garrity, Jacob Lewis, Joel Lewis, and John Lewis; and a great-granddaughter, Aubree Barnes.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Long Branch Baptist Church, the Rev. Scott Lewis officiating. Burial will be at a later date. A time of visitation will be held one hour before the service at Long Branch Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to Gibson Cancer Center, 1200 Pine Run Drive, Lumberton, N.C., 28358.
