Shirley Ann Burgess, 90, of Dixon, died Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Franklin Grove Living & Rehabilitation Center in Franklin Grove. She worked as a Registered Nurse for KSB in Dixon for 44 years prior to her retirement in 1995.

Shirley was born on November 25, 1930, in Dixon, IL, the daughter of Carl Edward and Marie Alma (Otto) Johnson. She married Richard Burgess on September 15, 1951, in Dixon. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon. Shirley enjoyed home gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, and was an avid member of the Lee County Homemakers Education Association and Home Extension, and Chicago Cubs fan.

She is survived by 5 sons, Gary (Rena) Burgess, Richard (Kathy) Burgess, Wayne Burgess, Dale (Sue) Burgess, and Brad Burgess, all of Dixon; one sister-in-law Lois Burgess of Harmon; 10 grandchildren, Nathan (Brook) Burgess, Michelle (James) Elliott, Jenny Burgess, Matt (Lindsay) Burgess, Kim (Mike) Peterson, Joshua Burgess, Lucas Burgess, Jennifer Hamilton, Jamie (Dustin Smith) Hamilton, Michael Hamilton; 16 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 2017, parents; three sisters, Helen Marie Tatum, Lois Henrietta Smith, Marion K. Metzen, all of Dixon; two brothers-in-law and spouse, Hubert (Helen) Burgess of Princeton, and Arthur Burgess of Harmon.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until time of service at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon with the Rev. Rosa Lee, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
