Mrs. Betty "Faye" King Burgess, 87, died Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS. The funeral service will be held in the Waller Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Jeff Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at North Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Waller Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
Born in Bruce, MS to the late Ethel Thelma Ray and Cellus Vestal King, Mrs. Burgess worked for many years as a waitress at the Holiday Inn in Oxford, MS. She was a homemaker and caring wife to her late husband, Van Edison Burgess and a loving mother to her two sons, David and Mike. Mrs. Burgess enjoyed quilting and flower gardening. She was an excellent cook, especially known for her dressing, fried pies, and cakes. Mrs. Burgess served others by lovingly preparing special dishes for the many special people in her life. She was also a devoted pet owner to her late dog, Booger.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Burgess is predeceased by her son Michael Clifford Black of Oxford, MS; two sisters, Hazel Collins and Mae Ingram; and six brothers, E.C. King, J.B. King, Russell King, Larry King, Marion King, and D.C. King.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her son, David Charles Black of Oxford, MS; a sister, Jackie Meads of Corpus Christi, TX; two brothers, Norris King of Bruce, MS, and Doyle King of Oxford, MS; a grandchild, Isaiah Black of Chewelah, WA; two special nieces, Nina Coffey of Etta, MS, and Carole Arnold of Oxford, MS; and two special friends, Sharon McLaurin and her daughter Melanie Ford, both of Athens, GA.
