Elva Doorenbos
June 8, 1925 – July 20, 2021

Elva was the daughter of Dirk Vander Waal and Artie Vanden Berg Vander Waal. She grew up on their farm in Mahaska County and attended Flint Ridge Country School, Pella Community High School and Central College. Elva, her parents, grandparents, and great grandparents were all members of First Reformed Church. She met Ray Doorenbos, a Central student from Morrison, Illinois at an evening service. In the year 1943, WWII was looming. Ray began teaching army pilot cadets flying instruction in the classroom and Elva logged their flying hours at the Pella airport. They were married November 30, 1946 in the parsonage. Ray completed his education and began his teaching career as a math teacher at Pella High and Elva's career was that of the executive secretary to the dean of Central College.

She and Ray loved to travel, making trips to Europe, camping in Alaska, and visiting historical sites around southern United States. After their retirement they were members of a carpenter's missionary group.

She enjoyed the company of her neighbors, television sermons, reading the paper and following Pella and college sports teams, and rides through the countryside.

She often said she was so lucky to have grown up in and been able to live in beautiful Pella.

Per her request no public services will be held.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be designated for the Ray and Elva Doorenbos Pella Community Endowed Scholarship at Central College.
