Joseph Edward Murphy, age 94, of Vienna, Virginia passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Joseph was born June 15, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY. He was the third of 10 children born to Joseph and Kathleen Murphy.He had a wonderful childhood in Brooklyn, NY and Milford, PA. After graduating from Brooklyn Prep. High School, he joined the Marine Corps at the end of World War II. After a year at Brown University, he attended St. Christopher's Seminary in London, Ontario. Rather than becoming a priest, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency where he had a distinguished career. He met the love of his life, Molly there, and they married in 1962. They raised two children. Joseph retired in 1986, though he continued to work until 2017. He was an active and proud member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and River Bend Golf and Country Club. He is survived by his wife Molly, his son Joe (Erin) and his daughter Beth (Tom) and his four grandchildren, whom he loved very much. A visitation will be held on Wednesday June 30 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral home, 1102 W. Broad St. in Falls Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday July 1 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel 8601 Wolftrap Rd. in Vienna. Burial will be at a later date in Fairfax Memorial Park. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Capital Caring Hospice or Our Lady of Good Counsel.
