Amos Faw was the ninth of twelve known children of Jacob Faw (1799-1859) and Mary J. Calloway Faw (1803-1876) who married c1820 in presumably Ashe County, North Carolina. Jacob and Mary lived their married lives in Ashe County, North Carolina. When a young man, the son Amos moved to Fulton County, Illinois where some other family members lived.

Amos married Elvira Wilcoxen (1839-1899) on 04 Feb 1858 at Fulton County, Illinois. Amos and Elvira were the parents of eleven known children, six girls and five boys. Ten of the eleven children lived to maturity. The children were:

2. Shadrack C. Faw (1860-young)
3. Laura V. Faw Post (1863-1909)
4. Amos Arnold Faw (1865-1930)
5. Arabella Faw Ray (1866-1926)
6. Bloom Faw (1869-1932)
7. Virginia E Faw Cole (1871-1944)
8. Washington Monroe Faw (1873-1949)
9. Bessie Ann Sandals (1876-1939)
10. Walter James Faw (1878-1930)
11. Effie Prudence Faw Post (1880-1925)

Sometime between 1865 and 1869 the family moved from Fulton County, Illinois to Daviess County, Missouri. Amos died of pneumonia.
