George Henry Jacob Powell, 96, passed away Friday morning July, 16, 2021 following a short stay at the Seasons Hospice Center in Cumming, Georgia. George was a Findlay, OH native, residing with his son and daughter-in-law in Cumming, Georgia for the past seven years.

He was born to Alonzo and Carrie (Hartman) Powell in Findlay, Ohio on April 15, 1925. George had five siblings: Helen McClure, Joe Powell, Lonnie Powell, Virginia Vetter, and Leona Core, all deceased.

George married Norma (Stanfield) Powell on July 2, 1948 and she passed in January of 2015 after sixty six years of marriage.
George is survived by their two children: daughter Vicki (Steve) Spohr, residing in Ivoryton, CT, and son Jerry (Carole) Powell, residing in Cumming, GA.

There are surviving four grandchildren: Shelley (Dan) Ruggiero, Chris (Erin) Spohr, Jacob (Mallory) Powell, and Chelsey Powell.

There are also surviving three great-grandchildren: Kuranda Ruggiero, Cortland Ruggiero, and Madeline Spohr.

George was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during WW2 in the Pacific theater aboard the USS Blue Ridge as a radio operator. Following the war he attended Findlay College where he attained a Bachelor's degree in business.
George spent the majority of his working career, 31 years, at the spark plug plant in Fostoria, through multiple owners including Ford, Bendix, Allied Signal, and retiring from Honeywell. George held many positions throughout his tenure, including Traffic Manager and Senior Buyer.

George was a member of the Elks and the Traffic Club. He was an avid golfer and was in many golf leagues through the years. He was a long-time member at Lakeland Golf Course in Fostoria where he shot a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed many years of golfing trips with Norma.

In his later years in Georgia, George remained active at the local senior center three to four days a week, he loved playing cards with his family, and sitting on the back deck, reading his newspaper, watching the wildlife, and soaking up the warm afternoon sun.

George was a rock and a blessing to his family. He will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm Wednesday, July 21, 2021 with Pastor Dan Metzger officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery where the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will present full military rites. Visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
