The Reverend James Milton Newton, age 69, of the Lake Harding Community, Alabama passed away on Thursday, July 15th, 2021, at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. He was born on May 13th, 1952, in Langdale, Alabama to the late William and Willie Jo Nix Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Wayne Newton; and brother-in-law, Roderick Stone.

Reverend Newton was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. Over the years he served as Pastor at Standing Rock United Methodist Church, Midway Methodist Church, Harrington Heights Methodist Church, and Plant City United Methodist Church. He had formerly worked as a building contractor and for West Point Pepperell. He was a big Auburn University fan. His grandchildren and family were very important to him.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 18th, 2021, at 2:00 PM (EDT) at Langdale United Methodist Church in Valley. Interment will follow in Johnson Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM (EDT) until the service hour at the church.
