Peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, July 8, 2021, at the Elderwood in Hornell after an extended illness. He was 82. Ed was born on October 2, 1938 in Avoca to John and Irene Storms Stewart.
On July 1, 1961 in Wallace, he married the former Marcelene Pierce, who predeceased him in June of 2014. He was also predeceased by his son, Christopher Stewart in February of 2014.
Ed was a life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley and had been employed as a mechanic and bus driver for the Canisteo Central School district for several years. After retirement from the bus garage he worked part time on ABC Ranch on the Cunningham Creek Road, where he was kind of a "jack of all trades". He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to travel to Nova Scotia and Florida.
He was a part of the American Legion War Dads, Canisteo American Legion.
Ed is survived by his son, Michael Stewart of Canisteo; granddaughter, Grace Stewart; daughter-in-law, Corinne Stewart-Lamphier all of Canisteo; two sisters, Lynda Dygert and Nancy Dodd; his brother Jack Stewart; good friend, Peggy Hudacsek of Canisteo; special nephew and "Text Buddy", Brian Dygert.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 11th, from 1-4 PM, at the H.P. Smith and Son Funeral Home in Canisteo, where his Funeral and Committal Services will take place immediately following Calling Hours, at 4:00 PM. Ed's Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo.
