Hugh Ellsworth Reed, 92, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born Nov. 21, 1905 in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late William H. and Leila VanArsdall Reed. He was a long-time printer at the Harrodsburg Herald, a life long member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and choir member, and was a former assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 178. He was a 1925 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, where he played on the school baseball and football teams. Survivors include: his wife, Lois Rue Reed, Harrodsburg; two sons; Ronald H. Reed and William H. Reed, both of Versailles, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers; William, McKee, and Ralph Reed and three sisters; Carrie and Leila Reed and Miriam Reed Mitchell. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 13, at McClellan Funeral Home by Dr. David Hartman with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery.
