Harry Lindsey Hess, age 91, of Richlands, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at his home.

Harry was born on October 25, 1929 to the late James A. and Nora Horton Hess in Richlands, Virginia. He was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1948 and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Harry was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, where he loved being part of the Men of the church. He also loved working with the Operation Christmas Child Program packing shoe boxes and receiving letters from children all over the world. Harry loved God, his family, his church, and baseball. He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA Local #7327.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James Arthur Hess, Jr., John Marvin Hess, Howard H. Hess, George P. Hess, and two sisters, Nanola "Nance" Hess and Betty Stevens.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Peggy;

His daughter, Martha Jessee and husband, Jeff;

Grandson, Marcus Lee Jessee;

Brother, Bill Hess;

Sisters, Mary Jane Hurt and Helen Hess.

Harry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Legacy Hospice and CVMC for their extended kindness.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Richlands Presbyterian Church (PO Box 446 – Richlands, Virginia) or to Legacy Hospice.

Funeral services for Harry Lindsey Hess will be conducted at 2 PM on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Reverend Paul Min officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be John Hess, Brady Hess, James Hurt, II, Matthew Hurt, Neil Carini, and Men of the Richlands Presbyterian Church. Friends may call after 12 PM on Saturday afternoon at the funeral home. The UMWA Memorial Chaplain Corps will conduct a UMWA tribute and the VFW Post# 9640 will conduct graveside military rites.
