Ethel I. (Barnhart) Turner, 93, of Freeport, died Friday, July 20, 2007, peacefully at Highlands Nursing Home, Brackenridge. Mrs. Turner was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Meridian, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Sadie (Schlagel) Barnhart.

Mrs. Turner worked at the Butler Shirt Factory in Butler for a number of years. During World War II, she made socks and shirts for the soldiers going overseas.

Mrs. Turner was a member of Freeport United Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed bowling, bingo and going to yard sales. She was a past volunteer for the Freeport Meals-on-Wheels, had been a Sunday school teacher and was involved with various church activities. She was also a past Den Mother for the Boy Scouts.

Ethel is survived by her two sons, Dale W. Turner, of Freeport, and Gary E. Turner, of Oakland Township, Butler; her daughter, Martha (Phil Pavey) Turner, of Wantirna, Australia (Victoria); a sister, Janet (Chester) Aspelin, of Butler; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Turner, who passed away in 2003; two brothers, Harry and Merle Barnhart; and a sister, Myrtle Oasterling.

Family and friends are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, Freeport. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. William Mumaw officiating.

Burial will be in the Butler County Memorial Park, Butler.
