Joshua "Jot" Mercer Goar (31 Jan 1870, New Lisbon, IN-4 Apr 1947, New Castle, IN; buried New Lisbon Cemetery) married 28 Mar 1900 at Dublin, IN Margaret Peyton (Feb 1875, New Lisbon, IN- ; buried with husband), d/o Edward Peyton and Frances McCormack.

He was a professional baseball pitcher from 1890 to 1898 for clubs at Muncie, Anderson, Terre Haute and Indianapolis in Indiana; Toledo and Cincinnati in Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Grand Rapids, Michigan. His baseball stats tell us that he was five feet, nine inches tall, and weighed 160 pounds. He threw and batted right handed. He is famous for giving up six hits in an inning (three triples, two doubles, and a single) without a single run scoring in the Indiana State League, 1890.

In 1898 he opened a general merchandise retail store in New Lisbon and operated it until 1921. For twelve years during this period he served as postmaster.

Listed in the 1900-1920 Henry County, IN censuses. They had two daughters born at New Lisbon, IN.

Jot's ancestry can be traced back to his 5th great grandfather John Gore, the English immigrant. In addition to his two daughters, Jot had two grandsons and three great grandchildren.
