SHINER: John Edward Schroeder Sr., 86, passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born August 29, 1934 in Shiner to the late Rudolph Adolph Schroeder and Isabella Mary (Fishbeck) Schroeder.

John graduated from Shiner High School in 1952 and graduated from Texas Western College in 1959 with a B.B.A. He was a veteran having served in the US Army and a member of American Legion Post in Shiner. He married Diane Grondahl Setzer August 1, 1965 In Alamance, North Carolina. He moved his family back to Texas in 1971 and began work at Kaspar Wire Works as Assistant Controller until his retirement in 1999. He and Diane had Schroeder Income Tax Service from 1973 till 2008. John and Diane devoted many years and talents to Scout training and received the honor, the Wood Badge and were the first couple to receive the District Award of Merit. 17 young men attained Eagle Scout rank including their 3 sons, under John and Diane's guidance.

John was totally devoted to his Lord and Savior. He served United Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church faithfully as Sunday School teacher, choir member, Pastoral Committees and church councils. He entered into training and became a Synodically Authorized Minister (S.A.M.) in the first group commissioned in the Lutheran Synod. He helped pastor the Salem Lutheran Church in Port Lavaca, and assisted with Point Comfort and Tivoli. His ministry as chaplain, was serving in the nursing home and homebound devotions. He is a 24 year member of Shiner Rotary and was "Rotarian of the Year" in 1998. In his spare time, he served on the Shiner Cemetery Committee, Shiner Half Moon Holiday Committee, Shiner Hospital Board, Shiner Food Pantry and played Santa Claus for the Annual Christmas in the Park.

Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Diane Schroeder of Shiner; sons, John Schroeder (Rachael), David Schroeder (Kristine) and Robert Schroeder(Lisa), all of Shiner; 9 grandchildren, Candice Shiver, Casey Shiver, Austin Schroeder, Chase Schroeder, Jonathon Albrecht, Taylor Schroeder, Justin Albrecht, Anna Schroeder and Bree Schroeder; sisters, Mary Ann Fojt of Shiner and Mabel Hickey of Yoakum.

Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beatrice Meyer.

Visitation 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home with Prayer Service at 6 p.m.

Funeral Service 10 a.m., Monday, July 5, 2021 at United Dr. Martin Lutheran Church in Shiner with Rev. Chris Heinold officiating. Burial to follow at Shiner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shiner Lutheran Church, Shiner Food Pantry, Lavaca EMS or Shiner Police Dept.
