Carrie Channel Austin

Mrs. Carrie Channell Austin, age 83, resident of French Camp since 1963, died of respiratory failure Wednesday, November 3, 1993 at Kilmichael Hospital. She was the daughter of the late George Wesley and Katie Tyler Channell and the widow of the late Ben Allen Austin.

Born in Montgomery County on January 13, 1910, Mrs. Austin had owned and operated restaurants in Seymore, Texas; Waldo and Stamps, Arkansas; as well as in French Camp. She was a member of French Camp Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Grimmett of Stamps, Arkansas and Mrs. Dorothy "Dixie" Ward of French Camp; her sister, Mrs. Eva Black of Flora; two brothers, Wesley Channel and Fred Channell, both of Jackson; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at French Camp Presbyterian Church Friday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. W.R. McElrath officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery near Kilmichael.

Memorials may be made to French Camp Presbyterian Church.

Jordan Funeral Home of Kosciusko was in charge of arrangements.
