David was born in Elm River Township on May 21, 1943 to Harry and Leone (Rogers) Shelton. He married Lynda Sherman on April 30, 1994 in California and she survives.
David wore many hats over the years having worked in construction, driving a semi, being a patrolman for the city of Carmi, and working for Southwire Manufacturing out of Flora, retiring in 2005. He was a proud Air Force veteran having been stationed in Japan during Vietnam. No fish in Wayne County was safe when David was around. He was also known for growing his 20 pound cabbages. He ran a little mowing service in his retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda; two children, David Shelton of St. Louis, Missouri and Shari Shelton Walsh of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Bill (Janice) Shelton and Raymond (Janet) Shelton all of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Cameron Noone, Cailey (Nate) Clam, and Keegan Walsh all of Denver, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Preceding David in death were his parents.
Graveside services with military honors provided by Anthony Wayne American Legion Post 176 and the Wayne Memorial Post 4535 VFW will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Maple Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
