Doris Christy Chambers, 87, died Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Hillside Manor, Gatesville, Texas.

She was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Grenola, Kansas, to Rolla C. and Izoda (Kelly) Cheever.

On Aug. 26, 1937, she married Fred D. Chambers, Toronto, Kansas. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1991.

The couple lived in Garnett, KS, until moving to Iola, KS, in 1947. In November 1990 they moved to Gatesville, TX.

She was active in the Church of the Nazarene and with missions and enjoyed crocheting. In Texas she volunteered in the kitchen at the Senior Center and performed with the Singing 60's.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Chambers, Gatesville, TX, and Donald and Brenda Chambers, Broken Arrow, OK; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Lloyd Kelley, Broken Arrow, OK; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Forrest and Doris Cheever, Madison, KS, and Harry Beacon, Tulsa, OK; a sister, Rachel Tatman, Madison, KS; eight grandchildren, William Chambers, Teresa Andel, Tammy Ortega, James Chambers, Rick Chambers, John Dwight Chambers, Scarlet Johnelle Greenfield and John Kyle Chambers; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Dwight Chambers; a brother, Ralph Cheever; and three sisters, Blossom Cheever, Vivian Tatman and Melvinia Phillips.

Funeral will be at First Church of the Nazarene in Iola, KS, with the Rev. Duane Copsey officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery, Fredonia, Kansas.
