Violanda (Bright) Gieg
October 6, 1930 - June 16, 2021
Resident of Concord, CA

Violanda (Vi) was born to Alberta (Thompson) and Orlando Bright on October 6, 1930, in Oakland, California. She was raised in Port Chicago, Concord, and Pittsburg, and lived in Contra Costa County most of her life. In 2017 she moved to Rockville Terrace in Fairfield, where she lived until her passing.

She met her future husband Lloyd Wendell Gieg when she was just 15, married at 17, and had five children over the next 7 years. They built a beautiful custom home on ½ acre on Denkinger Rd in Concord, with the help of family and friends, which was the location of numerous gatherings, and a source of many fond memories.

Vi was a staunch believer in social justice, environmental justice, and love. She survived many hardships in her life, including the Great Depression, the Port Chicago Blast, and Jonestown, but with Lloyd by her side, she taught us to endure. While raising her family, she went back to school for her high school diploma and went on to gain an A.A. degree from DVC. She retired from Social Security Administration after 25 years, and she and Dad traveled the US extensively, doing genealogical research, visiting family and sightseeing. She loved birds, history, flowers, art, sewing, traveling, and family above all.

She is survived by her children Richard (Diane) Gieg, Linda (Stan) Fedewa, Dianne (Jeff) Slattery, and Mike Gieg, grandchildren Mike Pollock, Pat (April) Fedewa, David (Shannon) Maria, Dan (Angie) Fedewa, Jennifer (Jamie) Fox, Marc Gurlin, Karen (Federico) Powell, Robert (Alexis) Fedewa, Nick (Brittany) Fedewa, Danielle (Ben) Korsmo, Christiana (Nathan) Altimari, Logan (Candace) Slattery, Jenessa Slattery, 22 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and many extended family members and friends who were her family.

Vi was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Gieg, 2013, her son Robert Gieg, daughter-in-law Renee Gieg, and grandson Jason Gieg, 1978, mother, Alberta Bright, 1988, father, Orlando Bright, 1957, her three sisters, Dorothy Sattler, Joan Howe, Shirley Lundgren, and their husbands, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews. She is the last of our family in her generation, gone, but never forgotten.

Services to be held June 23, 12pm, Oakmont Cemetery in Lafayette. Viewing 10:00am to 12:00pm.
