Duane A. "Schmitty" Schmidt, 81, of rural Arlington, Iowa, died on Saturday afternoon, June 19, 2021 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 2:30 P.M. Friday, June 25, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Margaret Yackel-Juleen officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Military Graveside Service by the U.S. Army and the Arlington American Legion.

Interment: Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington, Iowa.

Duane Alfred Schmidt was born August 26, 1939 in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Alfred Carl & Margaret Anna (Lauck) Schmidt. He grew up in the Arlington area and graduated from Arlington High School in the class of 1957.

Duane joined the U.S. Army and served between the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a helicopter mechanic, stateside and in Korea.

Following his military service, he worked road construction throughout the Midwest. Duane returned to Arlington and purchased a bulk milk truck route that he owned and operated from 1967 to 2009, delivering to AMPI.

Duane met Arla Stegen and they were married in 1970. They raised their children, Ty and Valerie, on their family farm near Arlington. They later divorced.

Duane is survived by his Son: Ty (Sylvia) Schmidt of Janesville;

Daughter: Valerie (Doug) Brooks of Des Moines;

7 Grandchildren: Chelsea, Rory, Logan, Kiersten & Erika Schmidt and Maggie & Jack Brooks;

2 Sisters: Dorothy Ann (Alvin) Nus of North Carolina &

Janice Longmuir of Minnesota;

Special Friend: Jean Cue of Oelwein and

Many Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; former wife: Arla Schmidt and a brother-in-law: Robert Longmuir.
