OLDEST IN CHICAGO YARDS
Death of Erie Engineer David Annon (Annan) Occurred This Morning.
Thomas Annon, the Erie machinist, received a telegram this morning from Chicago informing him of the death of his brother, David Annon, which occurred at 9 o'clock. Death resulted after an illness of over eight months. The ailment was consumption. The deceased was forty-four years old, and is survived by a wife and two children, Charlotte and George. Brothers are Thomas, of this city; William of Chicago, and Arthur of Buffalo. Arrangements for the funeral were not announced today. Thomas Annon and family will leave for Chicago on Erie train No. 13 this evening.
The serious illness of the deceased has been mentioned in the Herald at various times, and a sketch of his railroad career was noted with much local interest. In the death of David Annon there has been removed one of the oldest engineers in the service of the Erie in the Chicago yards. For twenty-three years he was in the switching service, and later was chief hostler of passenger engines from the Union depot and the Erie round house. He was familiarly known to every road man running on the Chicago division and was universally respected. He was a member of high standing in the Chicago order of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and for twelve years served as chief. He was a member of the Masonic lodge.
As soon as the funeral arrangements are announced many of the local Brotherhood will plan to attend the obsequies.
