Clara "Nell" Jones, 86, died Sunday, June 13, 2021 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 22, 1935 in Crowell, Texas the daughter of Richard C. & Fannie M. (Schultz) Johnson.
Nell grew up on the family farm near Crowell, Texas where she attended schools. On June 15, 1957, she married Gordon L. Jones in Crowell, Texas. They moved to Sidney, Nebraska until 1962 when they moved to Garden City where they have lived since. A homemaker, Nell was a member of Mother's Club. She loved to spend her time doing yard work, gardening, flowers, watching the birds and squirrels, playing bridge, home decorating, traveling, oil painting, handy work, and going to her coffee groups.
Survivors include two children Carrie (Ron) France and Kevin Jones both of Garden City; a sister Martha Gann of Ft. Worth, TX; seven grandchildren Kinlee (Derek) Scheer of Lakin, KS, Bailey (Gabe) Betts of Cottonwood Falls, KS, Roni (David) Delgado of Mesa, AZ, Jacquelyn (Tony) Traffanstedt of Emporia, KS, Tia (Weston) Peitz of Garden City, Derek (Tiffany) Jones of Holcomb, & Desirae Jones of Holcomb; and twenty one great-grandchildren. Nell is preceded in death by her husband Gordon who died on January 9, 2019. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Paul Johnson and Joe Johnson; and three sisters Evelyn Priest, Mary Thompson, & Linda Boyett.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Chad Ulrich officiating. Services may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to Homestead Assisted Living in care of the funeral home
