After learning of her father's death, Thomas and Susan's daughter Charlotte (Wildman) Buell filed a claim against the estate on behalf of her mother, her brother John T, her sister Annie (Wildman) Pearse, and her deceased sister Margaret's daughter Lillie Nevins.  Thomas and Phoebe's son William was the executor of the estate.

Joseph Hughes Jr testified that when he was age 21, in December 1849 Thomas and Susan were married in his father's house in London twp, Middlesex Co., Ontario where Thomas had been working at the time.

As the lawful widow of Thomas, Susan also testified, stating they were married on 11 Dec 1849, had lived together for 14 or 15 years as husband and wife, and had 9 children, with only 3 still living, and the only child of from one of her deceased children being Lilly Nevins, the child of her daughter Margaret.  While she didn't mention them, she had other grandchildren by her living children.  She must have lost contact with her daughter Martha (Wildman) Kelly (1858-1930), who was in Michigan.  As it appears they weren't in contact, she wouldn't have known her granddaughter Margaret (Kelly) Godin had just died that March, leaving a great grandson.  She also stated that Phoebe Wildman was her sister Phoebe Long.  While Thomas and Phoebe lived as man and wife in Michigan, she wasn't aware that they were ever married.   During the time they were all under the same roof in Asphodel, Thomas alternated which sister he slept with, leading to five children by Susan including twins and two by Phoebe. She stated that after Thomas and Phoebe left for Michigan, he went back and forth, cohabitating with her when he was there as she could protect herself.  Sometimes he brought money, but usually small trifles, though he did pay off a debt on 150 acres of land she referred to as the Driscoll property.  She said he had taken about $2000 in cash when he left.  She had not seen Phoebe since they had left.  It was her son John Thomas Wildman who chased away her husband for good, promising to care for her the rest of her life.  With the names of six of her children known, that leaves the twins and one other child who never lived to be recorded by a census.
