He was born July 8, 1922 near LaPlata, Mo., to the late Milton and Velma Ross. In Dec. 1942, he married his young love, Elizabeth Sears, and they spent the next 77 years of marriage taking care of each other. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2020.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and a daughter, Marilyn Dawn (Jenkins).
Earl was a quiet, hard-working member of the community. Besides belonging to Mendon Christian Church since moving to the area in 1948, serving as elder, church board member custodian and "fix-anything" man, he was also a charter member of Mendon Lions Club and 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge. Over the years, he worked as a substitute mail carrier, school bus driver (19 years), carpenter (25 years), and owned Mendon Sinclair service station for 20 years.
In his free time, he enjoyed trips to Texas in the winter, square dancing and card games. Earl loved working with his hands, gardening, eating, and finding a good place for a nap!
He will be greatly missed by his family which include daughter Jo Ann (John) Walter, Rolla, Mo.; 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Howard, Independence, Terry Jo McClintick, Sidney, Montana, James Earl (Susan) McClintick, Sedalia, Janet (Michael) Shepard, Rolla; 8 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of of friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Mendon Christian Church Scholarship Fund.
Funeral services will be held at Mendon Christian Church on Tuesday, June 15, at 11 AM, with internment at Jacksonville, MO. VA Cemetery at 2PM.
