"Services for Mrs. Iver (Hazel) Svaleson, 79, 1304 Crestview Court, who died Saturday afternoon at Tompkins Memorial Health Center, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Rose Room of Bruce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Hindman, pastor of First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 2 p.m. Monday.
Surviving are her husband, Iver; step-children, Richard I. Svaleson, Tacoma, Wash., Edmond Svaleson, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Gene (Elaine) Owen, Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and brother Wilbert Schuh, Fort Dodge.
Hazel Schuh was born in Platteville, Wis., and moved with her family to Fort Dodge in 1912 after the death of her father. She completed her education here and graduated from Fort Dodge High School, then lived in Des Moines for several years before returning to Fort Dodge.
She was employed at the Boston Store and later owned and operated Hazel's Grocery in southwest Fort Dodge. She also worked for Dr. Vernon Krambeck as a receptionist for a time.
She married Iver Svaleson in 1942 in Princeton, Mo., and they made their home in Fort Dodge.
Mrs. Svaleson had been a resident of Tompkins Memorial Health Center since January of 1981.
Mrs. Svaleson was a longtime member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church and is now a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, and was active in the women's organizations of both churches until her illness three years ago."
