29323 Driver H Cook, 61st Battery, Royal Field Artillery. He deployed with his battery to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, arriving in Natal after the battle of Colenso (15 Dec 1899) and joined the Natal Task Force. They fought at Potgeiter's Drift and Spion Kop between 20-24 Jan 1900, at Vaal Krantz 5-7 Feb 1900, and during the battle of Tugela Heights 14-28 Feb 1900, the break in battle to Ladysmith. During the recuperation period following the relief of Ladysmith, Driver Cook fell ill and died of enteric fever in the military hospital, Ladysmith. He is also commemorated on the Royal Artillery Boer War memorial on the corner of Horse Guards Parade and the Mall, at the north-east corner of St James Park, London, England (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/112037) and on the 61st Battery Boer War memorial in Grand Depot Road/South Circular Road, Woolwich, Greenwich, Greater London, England (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/169930).
