Thomas Albert Ray Sr., age 78, of Yulee, Florida (for 45 years), went to his heavenly home early Friday morning, May 28, 2021. He was at his home with his loving and devoted wife of 54 years by his bedside.
He was born on March 31, 1943 in Eight Mile, Alabama to the late Charles A. Ray and Jessie Mae Cato Ray. He was the fifth of eight children.
Thomas served in the Army from 1961~ 1967 and served two tours in Vietnam as a medic. While living in Mobile Alabama, he worked at International Paper Company. After moving to Florida, he owned and operated R and S Delivery Service at Jax Airport for many years. He worked for the Nassau County School Board and retired after 17 years of dedicated service.
Tommy was a devoted husband and father who loved being with his family. He was so very proud of his two sons, Jeff and Tom Jr. and their families.
"Pop" or "Poppie", as he was called, loved to go camping with his wife and taking his grand children on camping trips with them to Georgia state parks. He loved music, singing, playing the guitar, and the piano.
Thomas was a faithful Christ follower. He began attending Yulee United Methodist Church in 1994 and was a member of the Church since 2001. He enjoyed serving at his church. He would mow the grass on the weekends and help distribute food at the church food pantry.
Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Mary Richardson Ray, sons Jeffrey Gaines (Becky) Ray and Thomas Albert Jr. (Karen) Ray, four grandchildren, Dustin (Taylor) Ray, Sarah (Colby Kennedy) Ray, Justin (Nikki) Dicks, Brittany (Zach Higginbotham) Dicks, three great grandchildren, Heidi Alanah, Hagen Wade and Cannon Ray, sister Neilda (John) Rouse, brother in law Dock (Ellen) Richardson, sister in law Linda (Colyn) Blalock, nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by baby daughter Deborah Christine Ray, his parents, mother- in- law (Mom) Audrey Brown Richardson, father- in- law Henry Gaines Richardson, siblings, Frances, Mildred, Jimmie, Buck, Bobby and Judy, one nephew, Hank Richardson.
Services will be held with military honors and Pastor Charlie Sward officiating at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
