Geraldine "Gerry" Mae Wherry, 86, of Onslow, Iowa passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Her funeral service will be held at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming, Iowa on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held one hour prior to her service. Burial will be held at Clay Cemetery in rural Onslow, Iowa.

Geraldine Mae was born on August 25, 1934, in Wyoming, Iowa to George and Bernice (Coleman) Topping. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1952.

On February 22, 1953, she was united in marriage to Daryl Wherry at the Wyoming United Methodist Church. While Daryl was in the service she worked as a clerk in the Jones County Soil Conservation office. She was a member of the Onslow Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Gerry belonged to many women's groups and was a member of the Jones County Historical Society as a curator. She was a stay-at-home mom and volunteered as a 4-H leader. After her children were grown, Gerry worked at St. John's Daycare in Monticello. Sewing was a passion of hers and you could always find her hemming clothing or making quilts to donate to Veterans, the homeless, she also donated many quilts to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. After retiring Gerry and Daryl wintered in Arizona where she was the coordinator between the Florence Gardens Home Association and the Mary O'Brien Elementary School. Gerry helped distribute donated school supplies and Christmas presents at the school.

Those left to cherish her memory are her five children: Steve (Valerie) Wherry of Wyoming, Kevin (Sandi) Wherry of North Liberty, Brad (Lisa) Wherry of Wyoming, Duane (Sharon) Wherry of Muscatine and Suzanne (Matt) Schnedler of Franklin, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Dolores (Roy) Holzinger and her brother Acil (Mary) Topping.
