Mrs. Doris Cook Dickey Brooks, age 88, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015.

The daughter of Annie Colson and Oscar Edward Cook, she was born November 17, 1926, in Washington County.

After Tennille High School, Doris graduated from Berry College with honors. She was active in several campus organizations, elected to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, and was an accomplished pianist. She earned the master's degree from George Peabody College and was a teacher of mathematics for over 30 years, the last 21 years at Cartersville High School. Seeing her former students become capable, productive citizens gave her great joy.

Over the years she gave leadership to Pilot International, American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Gamma, and Georgia Council—Teachers of Mathematics. As a distinguished professional, she was named Woman of the Year for Bartow County in1975.

Doris greatly enjoyed organizing gatherings of friends and family. She especially loved Christmas and planned for it year-round. She hosted an annual reunion for the Dickey family in honor of her husband Edward's birthday, a tradition she continued even after his death. Her love of family was further exemplified by her care for her mother in her home from 1950 until her mother's death in 1996.

She loved to travel and took great delight in visiting Hawaii, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Holy Land. She always had her camera on hand to document her travels and gatherings and was diligent about sharing her photographs.

Doris was a loyal member of Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. A woman of deep faith, she enjoyed membership in the United Methodist Women and was an active member of Grace Bible Circle. She attended and taught Sunday School.

Doris was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Gray Dickey, her second husband Walter Mack Brooks, and her sister, Joyce Cook Folds.

She is survived by her sister, Anne C. Neal of Gainesville, Georgia, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from the Dickey family, and many nieces and nephews.

Deepest appreciation is expressed to cousin Russell Dickey and his wife Linda for all their help and support.

A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to service time at Sam Jones United Methodist Church.
