Gary A. Carter, 71, of Peru, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his home.

Born on January 14, 1950 in Logansport, IN, he was the son of the late William and Jane (Shirley) Carter.

On May 17, 1974 in Logansport, he was married to Marilyn Smith, who preceded him in death on October 22, 2020.

A 1968 graduate of Logansport High School, Gary continued his education at Ivy Tech Community College where he received his Associates of Science in Accounting.

Gary had worked at the former Wilson Food plant in Logansport and most recently American Foods-Eckrich (Smithfield) in Peru as a quality control inspector.

Gary was a member of the Abundant Life in Kokomo. He enjoyed bowling, especially as a mentor with youth bowling. He started the Logansport Bowling League. Gary also enjoyed working as a basketball referee. In earlier years, he played softball on the Wilson Foods league. Gary was a former Boy Scout leader. His favorite past times included watching John Wayne Westerns and reading.

He is survived by four children; one stepson; one brother; one sister; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gary was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Stevens; and one brother, Mike Carter.

A funeral service celebrating Gary's life will be held at 5 PM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Toph Elkins officiating.

Friends will be received from 2 PM until the time of service on Thursday.

Interment, at a later date, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
