Arvid "Junior" Hanson, 80, of Whiting, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his residence.
A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Drew Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, Castana, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Army, David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa, and Grimsley-Thayer American Legion Post #502 of Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Junior was born January 20, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Arvid Hanson Sr. and Mildred (Lord) Hanson. He grew up on a farm near Turin, Iowa and graduated from Castana High School in 1959.
Junior served on the United States Army from October 10, 1963 and was honorably discharged September 10, 1965.
Junior and Linda West were married November 20, 1987 in Whiting, Iowa. He was a business partner with Tom Shook and together they owned S & H Drilling for thirty-three years.
He was an avid NASCAR and Iowa Hawkeyes Fan. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved woodworking and birdwatching. In his younger years he loved to race cars, and go fishing, camping, and hunting. He will be Remembered as "A Hard Working Nice Guy".
Junior was a member of the Rallypoint Church in Sioux City, Iowa.
Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-three years, Linda (West) Hanson of Whiting, Iowa; his children, Tony Hanson, Tonya (Chad Lewon) Hanson, Drew (Amber) Hanson, and Christopher (Jessica) Persinger; grandchildren, Jericho Persinger, Lakyn Hanson, Ridley Hanson, Sparrow Hanson, Waylon Hanson, Austin Hanson, and Hayes Hanson; and many other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvid Hanson, Sr. and Mildred (Lord) Hanson; and parents-in-law, Merle and Marjorie (Myers) West.
