John Ezra Applewhite

John Ezra Applewhite, 74, retired North Carrollton heavy equipment operator and Montgomery Co. native, died of congestive heart failure after a lengthy illness, Friday Jan. 27, in Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Velmer Gordon Applewhite of North Carrollton, four daughters, Mrs. Grace Willing of Richland, of Richland, Mrs. Jean Jones of Pensacola, Fla.; Mrs. Janie Burns of Greenville and Miss Kathryn Applewhite of Columbus; two step-daughters, Mrs. Greta Cockrell of Olive Branch and Mrs. Kay Slocum of Carrollton; three sons, John E. Applewhite of Richland, Jimmy Applewhite of Magee and Harris Applewhite of Collinsville; three step sons, Ray Locke of Studio City, Calif.; Donald Palmertree of Gulfport and Noel Palmertree of Greenwood; a half sister, Mrs. Ora Henderson of Prairieville, La.; a brother, Joe K. Applewhite of Winona; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 am., Monday Jan. 30, from Oliver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jimmy Latham preached. Interment, with Masonic rites was at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Masons, Alvin Black, R.E. Clark, Hewette Austin, Thomas Donahoo, Al Malone, and Guy Lee Campbell.

Oliver Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
