Barbara Janie Applewhite Burns
(March 31, 1942 - September 27, 2020)

Mrs. Barbara Janie Applewhite Burns of Greenville passed away on Sunday, September 27, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson. Mrs. Burns was born at Poplar Creek on March 31, 1942, and was the daughter of the late John Ezra and Rilla Jeanette Montague Applewhite. She was a 1960 graduate of Kilmichael High School and a 1964 graduate of Mississippi State University. She worked for more than 30 years for Social Services before retiring. She was active in 4H, girls softball, and the Washington County Mounted Sheriff's Posse Riding Club. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace Willingham, Jean Applewhite Jones, and Katherine Applewhite; and a brother, Jimmy Applewhite.

Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Burns of Greenville; daughter, Bettie Martinek (Darrell) of Greenville; son, Billy Burns of Greenville; granddaughter, Carol Jane; and two brothers, Harris Applewhite of Newton and John Applewhite of Ridgeland.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, at Bethsaida Baptist Church Cemetery near French Camp, with Rev. Don Smith officiating.
