Charley Harris Havard, the fifth child of Jeremiah (Sank) Havard (17 Oct 1875 - 12 Jun 1919) and Rhoda Caroline Page (02 Dec 1846 - 02 Jul 1927) was born 17 Oct 1875 in Tarkington Prairie, Liberty County, TX..

He had four sisters and five brothers: John Havard (20 Oct 1866 - 13 Dec 1939), Ada Elizabeth Havard Cannon (30 Mar 1869 - 05 Mar 1949), Ida Marie Havard McGee (27 Feb 1871 - 13 Jan 1965), Norman Page Havard (25 Feb 1873 - 09 Aug 1929), Willis Sank Havard (03 Feb 1878 - 08 Mar 1953), Jeanette Jane Havard Lyon (15 Oct 1881 - 04 Dec 1937), Arthur B. Havard (25 Apr 1884 - 01 Nov 1886), Carrie Stella Havard (14 Nov 1887- 19 Dec 1887), and Clyde Johnson Havard (09 Jun 1890 - 24 Dec 1969).

He married Iva Jett (06 Jun 1878 - 16 Apr 1963) daughter of Ransom (Rance) Ferguson Jett, (10 Dec 1845 - 17 Apr 1928) and Mary Ann (Polly) Winfree (02 Nov 1840 - 16 Mar 1925) on 20 Dec 1906 at the Rural Shade Baptist Church at Tarkington Prairie, Liberty County, TX. On this same day, his brother Willis Sank Havard married Mary Molissa Cole at the same church and location.

Harris and Iva had seven children: Jeremiah Culbertson Havard (27 Oct 1907 - 15 Apr 1979), Eugene Weldon Havard (02 Sep 1909 - 8 May 1991), Mary Rhoda "Polly" Havard Hellman (22 Jul 1911 - 03 Apr 2003), Johnnie Carey Havard Ehrlund/ Havard (28 Jun 1913 - 02 Apr 1997), Alice Wilda Havard Lindstrom (18 Jan 1916 - 14 Sep 2011), Ida Dorris Havard Vanya/Van Fossen (11 Feb 1919 - 27 Jun 2008), and Ruby Mabel Havard Hurt (22 Sep 1921 - 21 Nov 1996). Their first three children were born in Lamb, Liberty County, TX. The last 4 children were born in Huffman, Harris County, TX.

The earlier part of his life, he lived in Liberty County, TX near Tarkington Prairie, Cleveland, Liberty County, TX, Harris, as a young man. He worked on the farm, helped with the cattle, and attended school at Tarkington Prairie. His family was active in the Rural Shade Baptist Church of Tarkington Prairie. During his early years he often went on trail rides, owned his own mules for moving timber, taught school, and farmed. He passed a teaching test and received a second grade teaching certificate and taught school for a short time. In 1899-1900, he was enrolled as a student at Baylor University in Waco, TX. His lifelong friend James Carey Daniel went on to graduate from Baylor and became a missionary to China.

Their first home was on Tarkington Prairie. Liberty County, TX where Harris had purchased a small farm. After their third child was born, they sold this farm and purchased a farm in Huffman, Harris County, TX where they farmed and raised their family until Harris passed away 05 Apr 1951. Harris and Iva were faithful and active members of the First Baptist Church of Huffman, TX until Harris' death. Harris had helped in organizing and building the church there and helped in building the first church pews. Their original home was located on the Havard Road in Huffman, TX. It consisted of some 75 acres with a beautiful pecan orchard. Farming, hog killing time, raising cattle, and maintaining a garden kept the family busy. The home never had running water, an indoor toilet, or electricity. In the 1950s, a hand cranked telephone and a space heater were installed. He never drove a car or a truck.

Harris was known for sharing his kindness toward others. He loved to entertain his grandchildren by wrestling with his cattle and horses. He enjoyed climbing a tree in the yard and hanging by his legs upside down. He rode his horse, Jane, back and forth to the post office, and hitched his wagon to go to town for groceries and for transporting his family. He enjoyed cutting-up and putting on a show for his grandchildren. Harris loved Huffman, Texas, his church, his family, and his many friends.

Harris passed away 05 Apr 1951 at his home in Huffman, Harris County, TX, He was 75 years old.
