Melvin Dean Edwards, 79, Martinsville, died at 4:20 p.m. Nov. 7. 2007, at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. Born Jan. 16, 1928, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Steve and Anna (Bloucher) Edwards. He married Pauline Elizabeth (Owens) Edwards May 28, 1949. She survives in Martinsville. He retired in 1984 from REMC where he had been a line superintendant. He was a member of Paragon First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from April 19, 1946 to October 20, 1947. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening and was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. Other survivors include two sons, Gary Edwards of Martinsville and Eddie Edwards of Paragon; a sister, Julia Fowler of Martinsville; six grandchildren, Stephanie Ramsey, Michelle Beers, and Cody, Kristle, Chris and Olivia Edwards; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Steve "Shorty" Edwards; a brother, Steve Edwards Sr. and several half-brothers and sisters. The service will be 1 p.m. Saturday November 10th at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville. The Rev. Ron Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship Park Cemetery in Paragon. There will be a military service at the graveside.
