US Army Brigadier General. Born in Pennsylvania, he started his military career as a Quartermaster Sergeant in the 6th Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War. After the war, he was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the 10th Cavalry and was stationed at Fort McKavett, Texas. He was part of exploration of the West during the Indian Wars, served in the Spanish American War in 1898 and in the Philippine Insurrection in 1902. Rising through the ranks, he was promoted Colonel of the 3rd US Cavalry in April 1903 and commissioned Brigadier General in the Regular Army in 1905. Shortly after he retired, he died at Walter Reed Army Hospital Maryland, at age 69.
