James "Gene" Eugene Cutshaw, 68, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 in Highlands, NC.

A longtime resident of Franklin NC, he was born in Toledo, OH, on March 11, 1944. He was the son of Calvin Eugene Cutshaw and Willie Mae Tucker Cutshaw. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Marie Cutshaw and his sister, Constance Halterman.

Gene was a veteran of the US Coast Guard who served his country honorably for 15 years. He was an entrepreneur whose ventures ranged from founding Atlantic Equity Mortgage Corporation in Palm Beach, FL to owning and operating Cutshaw Trucking in Franklin, NC. He was an amateur pilot who loved animals and working with cutting horses. He attended Cullasaja Assembly of God.

Survived by his children Kimberly Triebe of Sylva, Christopher Cutshaw and wife Gerri of Highlands, NC, April Metz and husband Carey of Houston, Tx.

Mourned by his wife of 13 years Debra Beamer Cutshaw and her children Kimberly Elliot of Franklin and Eddie Elliot of Otto.

Gene is also survived by his nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, brother Wade Cutshaw of Toledo, OH, and sisters Sandy McCoy of Toledo, OH and Carlene Looney of Toledo, OH.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, December 1st in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Lee will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 4-5:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
