202 Sergeant Francis Maxwell, 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen. Lived in Mount Garnet, Tablelands, Queensland, Australia. He volunteered for service in South Africa during the Second Anglo Boer War. He enlisted as a Private with the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen on 19 Apr 1900 and embarked on 18 May 1900 on the ship SS Manchester Port. He was promoted to Sergeant on 1 Jun 1900. He was killed in action at Klip Drift, Hammanskraal, about 40km north of Pretoria aged 29 years while trying to save a comrade who had been injured along with his horse. He was buried at Hammanskraal and a wooden cross in his memory was erected by fellow troopers. His remains were later reinterred at Petronella Military Cemetery, about 25km North of Pretoria. He is also commemorated on the Brisbane Boer War memorial in Anzac Square, Ann Street, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (see: https://vwma.org.au/explore/memorials/2756) and on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour in Treloar Crescent, Canberra, Australia.
