Catherine Andersen Walsh passed peacefully into eternal life on December 28, 2020, at the age of 85 in Northbrook, Illinois. She was the essence of elegance with coiffed, blonde hair, azure blue eyes, statuesque poise, and Catholic virtues of charity and grace. Her gentle nature and service to others led her to study nursing at Loyola University (B.S., 1955) For many years, she was a registered nurse in area hospitals, most recently serving as a school nurse in the Chicago Public Schools. Born in Chicago, Illinois on May 23, 1935, Catherine was the only child of Catherine Ellen [Thornton] and Alfred Andersen.
Catherine was a loving and devoted mother to sons Kevin and Annie [Pesce] Walsh; Brian and Michelle [Waters] Walsh, Northbrook, IL; Martin and Michelle [Barger] Walsh, Evanston, IL; preceded in death by her daughter, Carin Walsh. Her grandchildren: Nico and Bethany [Meyers] Tortorella, Rocco Tortorella, Conor Walsh, and Ciara Walsh, adored their Grandma whose heart and home were a continual source of celebration, unconditional love, and steadfast support. While her physical presence is absent, her love, grace, and virtue will remain eternal in our hearts and minds.
A funeral mass was held in her memory on January 7, 2021, at St. Norbert's Church in Northbrook, IL officiated by Father Ismael Garcia Sainz with interment at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Northbrook, near her daughter, Carin Walsh.
