CHARLES WILLIAM FINLEY OBITUARY
Curry Funeral Home, Dyersburg, TN
Charles W. Finley, 67, of the Fowlkes Community, died Monday, May 17, 2021, at his residence. Born January 19, 1954, he was the son of the late William "Bill" and Jean Finley. Charles was a 1972 graduate of Dyersburg High School and a 1976 graduate of Union University. He was a retired teacher.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Fairview Cemetery officiated by Reverend William McKay.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 20th from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Horner, Glen Jones, Marty Richardson and Jimmy Thedford will serve as pallbearers.

He is survived by his sister, Gina Finley (Darrell Moore) of Snellville, GA, his son from a previous marriage, Reverend William McKay (Jennie) of Conway, Arkansas and two grandchildren, William Kenley McKay and Samuel Bradley McKay.

-----

Charles graduated from Union University, a private evangelical Christian university in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee, in 1976. The university is affiliated with the Tennessee Baptist Convention and relates to the Southern Baptist Convention.

Charles first taught History to the Eighth Grade at Finley Elementary School in Finley, TN, in 1976.

Charles could always be found to have a roll of Certs Cinamon red hard mint candy in his pocket.

Charles had an appreciation for sports cars and his first was his silver Corvette. Later in life, he had a red Alfa Romeo. I believe he had a Corvair at one time, and in the 1970s he drove a gold Datsun station wagon.

Charles rescued me (LOL) once from an icey road. My big Chevrolet Caprice would get to the big slanted curve just past Green's on Hwy 51 Bypass, twice, and start sliding to the inside/bottom of the curve. I circled back to the store and called for help. Charles drove me home to Finley, TN in that little gold Datsun. We left my car at Green's to be retrieved at another time, with less ice. My grandmother was so thankful for Charles bringing me home.

Charles was married to Marsha Spiller of Halls, TN, and together they had one son, William Finley, later known as Reverend William McKay.

Charles remarried later in life to Brenda Finley, who passed before Charles, of cancer.

Charles suffered from MS and was confined to a wheel chair in his final years.
