Obituary

Catherine Marine Wright, age 61, died peacefully in her home on May 1st 2021. She was born to Shirley Grey Wright in a small hospital in Flemington, New Jersey on January 3rd 1960. At birth however Catherine was placed in foster care in which William and Nelda Barron adopted her. She grew up and spent all of her life in Newark, NJ.

Catherine received her education in the public school system of Newark, NJ. After attending Barringer High School she worked several jobs before becoming a graduate of Essex County College. Upon graduation she spent most of her career in the medical field. Her former job was with Atlantic Health System working as a patient technician. While working full-time she attended school online at San Diego Christian College and Christian Leaders Inc.

Catherine was raised a Christian spending most of her life immersed in the gospel of the Lord. Her adopted mother Nelda was a dedicated missionary and teacher at Deliverance Center in Newark, NJ. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). Throughout the many challenges faced in Catherine's life she always managed to find her way back to the church.

Catherine was a relentless, unapologetic, devoted servant of the Lord. She was a minister and active member of Holy Dove Christian Fellowship in Irvington, NJ. She found great joy in fellowship and performing the work of the Lord. She continuously supported and worked for the benefit of her communities while also seeking to spread the gospel throughout all of New Jersey. Additionally, she was committed to her church and church family. Catherine will forever be remembered as, "living her life with purpose and great intentions." She brought smiles and encouragement to everyone she encountered. If you needed someone to talk to she was there to listen. She had immense ways of bringing hope even in the midst of tragedy.

In September 2013, Catherine was inspired to begin writing and discussing the many challenges she faced throughout her life. About two years prior, she lost complete sight in her right eye and only had 20% left in her left eye. Whilst living with glaucoma this didn't falter her from publishing her first and only book "Blind But Yet I See" in 2018. A memoir which chronicled her life and was designed to open the eyes of those lost and those who might be saved but instead are walking in their own way.

Catherine avidly loved going to theaters, museums and watching her grandkids play. She also enjoyed watching TV and some of her favorite TV shows included Andy Griffith, Golden Girls, The Flintstones or just about anything that came on TV Land. She also loved giving herself new projects. These projects ranged from teaching herself how-to play the piano to building something new around the house. While being practically blind and dealing with its challenges; this fueled her willingness to remain active and not let anything hold her back. She had a can do spirit and was immensely inspired by Psalm 23; her favorite scripture. "The Lord is my Shepard; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me besides the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the lord forever."

Catherine leaves behind her two children Bowman Wright and Angela Marine Wright. In addition to her children, three grandchildren survive Catherine: Jeremiah Bowman Wright, Chimere Obiri-Ibe, and Nkechi Obiri-Ibe. Catherine also leaves to cherish her memories her best friends Kim Harvey, Bowman Caldwell, Felicia Burnet, Philip Jukes, Sonia Montgomery, daughter-in-law Gabrielle Wright, Miminnie Woods, and the entire congregation of Holy Dove Christian Fellowship.

She will be greatly missed by all that knew her and will live forever in each of our hearts.
