George entered into eternal rest on January 22, 2021, at the age of 78. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 30, 1942 to George L. Gibson, Sr. and Jennie L. Monroe Gibson.
At a young age his family moved to Rome, New York, where his father owned an ice cream manufacturing business. He graduated from the Rome Free Academy in 1960 and SUNY Morrisville in 1962.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Sr., and Jean Monroe Gibson; infant son, Charles; grandparents, Louis and Jennie Gadbois Monroe and George A. and Effie Lowry Gibson
He majored in Horticulture and loved to grow any strange flower he could find as well as have flowers that bloomed starting in Spring and others that flowed to bloom through Fall. When he lived in Victor, he enjoyed have various species of chickens as well, with all sorts of colored eggs
He was a Prostate Cancer survivor and endured a long struggle with Diabetes. When he moved to Florida, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's with Lewey Body Dementia.
These diseases took their toll on him, however he always maintained a cheery attitude, never giving up. He happily attended a Parkinson's support group in North Port where he learned about his disease and how it affected himself and others.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Webb Gibson; his sons Jason E. (Sarah Tregay) of Clinton Township, Michigan and Kevin A. Gibson (Beth Chaisson-Gibson) of Port Charlotte, Florida; his sisters, Carol J. Lewis of Dryden, New York and Marion E. George proudly served his country in Alaska on active duty from 1964 – 1966 and then was in the Reserves from 1966-1970. He always enjoyed telling people about his experiences there. He said he drew the best duty. In the winter, he was part of the Army Biathlon ski team and in summer he was one of the servicemen operating river boats back and forth to recreation camps for officers. He went moose and elk hunting and had lots of fishing time and loved it.
George was a 43-year member of the Victor Fire Department and very proud of his service to the Victor community. He was also a twenty-five year employee of Eastman Kodak. George completely enjoyed being part of and serving his country and his community.
