A song director at Pleasant Springs Baptist Church in Tuskegee in his early years, Richard retired after 25 years from Colonial Bread Company where he was known by all his customers on his downtown route as the "singing bread man." A true songster at heart, he often sang and whistled his day away while driving or doing his daily chores. A Navy veteran, he became a lifelong member of Eastmont Baptist Church after moving to Montgomery in 1969.

Born October 31, 1930 in Tallassee, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie Cooper, and his daughter, Deborah Collinsworth. He is survived by two children, Donna Marie Alexander of Montgomery and Richard Donovan Alexander, Jr. (Susan) of Prattville, and two grandchildren, Angela Gail (Ron) Williamson of Montgomery and Earl O'Neal of Dothan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 14 at Leak Memory Chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service in Greenwood Serenity Gardens, Brother Mike Northcutt presiding. Pallbearers will be Steve Strickland, Jim Meacham, Fred Lawrence and Art Long.
